A centre for vocation, education and reconciliation.

George Bell House is located in the heart of the Georgian city of Chichester, within the picturesque grounds of the Cathedral's Close.  A fomer archdeaconary, it is has been restored to its former glory, offering the perfect setting for away-days, meetings, quiet days, residential weekends, and conferences for up to 40 people.

George Bell (Bishop of Chichester, 1929 - 1958) has a worldwide reputation for his tireless work in the areas of international reconciliation, the arts, education and church unity.  The House that bears his name provid a space where work in these areas can prosper.

George Bell House is suitable for:

  • Parish and Deanery groups
  • Those engaged in scholarly and cultural pursuits
  • Those working for justice, peace and reconciliation
  • Church groups of any denomination

The House offers two conference rooms, a dining room, a garden room, an oratory for individual prayer, and eight superb en-suite bedrooms.  The bedrooms consist of three doubles, four twin-bedded rooms and a ground floor single room with wheelchair accessible facilities.  There is also a beautiful garden, which if need be can accommodate a marquee for up to 120 seated people.

As well as providing a venue for groups, George Bell House is also developing its own programme of events and educational opportunities.  Full conference facilities are available along with many catering options to suit your budget, provided on site by the Cathedral's own Cloisters Hospitality Team.

George Bell House is also available for commercial use and can be hired for private functions.  (Click here for more information).  These commercial activities are designed to help fund the House's primary use.
