An exhibition of nine fascinating paintings by Sophie Hacker, in the Cathedral's North Transept. La Nativité du Seigneur, by Olivier Messiaen, is a suite of nine pieces based on the Nativity of Christ. It consists of some of the most profound and complex compositions in the organist's repertoire. Sophie Hacker has created nine fascinating paintings, nine Icons of the Incarnation, inspired by her own reactions to listening to
the music. Each painting is complex and multi-textured, mirroring the multi-layered effect of the music.
The Cathedral is open every day and free to enter.
To launch the Icons of the Incarnation exhibition, there was a unique collaboration of organ music, visual art and the spoken word. Cathedral Organist, Sarah Baldock performed La Nativité du Seigneur on the organ, interspersed with meditations written and read by Canon Roland Riem, and a specially made film enabled the audience to view Sophie Hacker's paintings.
