Today, Thursday 30th June 2016, we are delighted to be welcoming BBC Radio Sussex to Chichester Cathedral.

Following on from Volunteers' Week at the beginning of June, an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK, BBC Radio Sussex are putting together a programme, throughout the day, that celebrates volunteering across the county.

Chichester Cathedral is an ideal place for this, with over 600 volunteers taking on many different roles - welcoming our visitors, giving informative guided tours, cleaning, bell ringing, manning the Cathedral's information desk to name but a few! They make an invaluable contribution to the daily life of the Cathedral.

This afternoon BBC Sussex's political reporter, Ben Weisz, will be recording four short interviews live from the Cathedral.  These will include an interview with Judith Lee about being a Cathedral Guide and hearing all about her role as Head of this team of dedicated volunteers.

He will also be talking to Sue Doggart about flower arranging within the Cathedral and watching Sue and one of her team in action.  This will be followed by a visit to see the Seffrid Guild where Susan Fletcher will show him the beautiful and delicate embroideries that the ladies are currently working on for the Cathedral.

To round his visit off Hamish McNaughton will introduce Ben to the work done by his team of volunteer bell ringers.  This interview will be live against a special peal of bells that will be ringing to commemorate the Battle of the Boar's Head which took place on 30th June 1916.
