On Friday 30th September 2016, between 9am and 4pm, BBC Sussex broadcast live from the Cathedral Green, beside the Bell Tower.

The outside broadcast was part of BBC Sussex's grand broadcasting tour of Sussex and Surrey which took place over a two week period.  Throughout the day BBC Sussex presenters, including Danny Pike and Joe Talbot, interviewed  a variety of local organisations and individuals.  The Cathedral team were delighted to participate in this event and interviews took place with a number of the Cathedral community throughout the day. The Cathedral Chancellor, Dr Anthony Cane, was interviewed by Danny Pike for the morning show about the the powerful sculpture installation 'Shadows of the Wanderer' by Ana Maria Pacheco that is on display in the Cathedral until 14th November 2016.

At 11.40am, during the Danny Pike show, the Cathedral Choristers sang live on air from inside the Cathedral.  They gave a very moving and uplifting performance of 'The Lord Bless You and Keep You' by John Rutter.  Danny enjoyed finding out more about chorister life from Charles Harrison, the Cathedral's Organist and Master of the Choristers and from two of the Cathedral's senior choristers Conrad and Rafi. You can listen again here - the Chancellor starts at 01:41 along the scroll bar and the choristers at 02:40.

On the lunchtime show Bob Harper, General Manager of Cathedral Enterprises, provided lunch for the show's presenter Joe Talbot which he enjoyed live on air as he chatted to Bob about the the Cathedral's commercial enterprises including the Cloisters Café, Cathedral Shop, accommodation and events.

To work off his fish and chip lunch Joe scaled the Cathedral heights during the afternoon to present live from the base of the Cathedral spire at 3.10pm.  Having climbed up over two hundred spiral stairs he enjoyed the stunning views over the Sussex and Hampshire countryside.

He talked on air to Craig Sergeant, Director of the Chichester Cathedral Restoration and Development Trust, about the Cathedral's on-going restoration projects and fundraising activities.  Of particular interest was the project to replace the Cathedral's roof, which is coming to the end of its natural life.  This extensive project will cost in the region of five million pounds - a huge fundraising challenge for the Restoration Trust.

Listen again on the BBC iPlayer - Bob's interview starts at 01:10 and Craig's interview at 03:16.
