Cathedral Spire Steeplejacks Remove Weathervane

As part of a five yearly survey of the Cathedral the steeplejacks are carrying out maintenance work on the spire.  This time they have also removed the Cathedral's weathervane for cleaning and refurbishment.

The steeplejacks work from a ladder along the edge of the spire and also from a bosun's chair.  The spire is 277ft high.

This time they also had to erect a scaffold platform at the very top of the spire to enable them to remove the weathervane safely.  The weathervane has been up there since the 1970s.
