Conifers School wins the Festival of Flowers Art Competition

Winning Pupils from Conifers School

The winning school in the 2016 Festival of Flowers Schools Art Competition visited Chichester Cathedral recently to receive their award.  Conifers School from Midhurst won first place in the competition with Dora Stuttaford's charcoal still life.  Dora won an art workshop for her class at Pallant House Gallery along with some art vouchers for herself.  Other winners from Conifers School were Millie Howe and Amelie Hanrahan (runners up).  Commended prizes of vouchers also went to Evie Unwin-Wright, Noah Hyde, Lily Mitchell and a Special Judge Award to India Myers.

Second placed school was The March CEP School, Chichester with a piece of artwork inspired by Monet entered by Zachery Westlake.  Zachery won an art workshop for his class from Chichester Cathedral's Education Department and art vouchers.

The competition was run in conjunction with the Festival of Flowers, recently held at Chichester Cathedral, and entrants were asked to submit artwork inspired by 'The Artist's Palette', the theme of this year's Festival.  Entries included interpretations of work by William Morris, Matisse, John Piper, David Hockney and Henri Rousseau.  The judging panel included Louise Hastings from competition sponsors Moore Stephens, Maggie Lawrence of the Chichester Art Society and Robin Dickeson from the Society of Floral Painters.

The competition was sponsored by Moore Stephens and prizes included art workshops from Pallant House Gallery and Chichester Cathedral Education Department, £200 of art vouchers from Southeast Flowers, who supply the flowers for the Festival, as well as book vouchers and attraction tickets.

Other prizewinners who received art vouchers were (Highly commended) - Class 3 Camelsdale Primary School; Phoebe Francis, North Mundham Primary; Isabelle Moore, The March CEP School; (Commended) - Holly Wilburn, West Dean Primary; Jorja Lindridge, Fishbourne Primary; Isabel Thomas, St Alban's CE Primary School; Abbi-Gale Rackstraw, North Mundham Primary and Special Judges prizes were awarded to Sophie Masters, North Mundham and Ashton Linton from The Waterloo School.
