Spirit FM recently interviewed Craig Sergeant, the Director of the Chichester Cathedral Restoration & Development Fund regarding the essential repair work that is currently being carried out on the Cathedral's North West Tower.  This work has been made possbile by a £140,000 grant, secured in the first round of funding, from the First Word War Centenary Cathedral Repairs Fund.

Grants from the Fund, announced at Budget 2014, allow cathedrals to undertake urgent repair work.  Twenty million pounds has been put aside by the Chancellor in recognition of the important role cathedrals play in their local communities and in recognition of the fact that they receive no state funding.  The Cathedral Restoration & Development Trust has been very successful in the first two rounds of funding and have successfully secured £240,000 of funding to date.

In this radio interview Craig Sergeant explains that they are now looking towards the third and final round of fundraising allocations from the Fund for a project to repair the western arm of the Cathedral's cloisters.  This project is likely to cost in the region of £300,000.

Grants such as these are an essential part of the Trust's fundraising efforts, they enable urgent works to take place, so the Trust can turn its attention to the continuing and challenging task of raising funds for the Cathedral's numerous other restoration and development projects.  The Cathedral Trust is currently looking at a programme of  restoration work over the next ten years which will cost in the region of 10 to 15 million pounds.
