High Turnout to Welcome New Readers Across Sussex

The Bishop of Lewes, Richard Jackson, and the Bishop of Horsham, Mark Sowerby welcomed thirteen new Readers (lay ministers) to serve in parishes across Sussex, in a packed out Chichester Cathedral, on Saturday 23rd September 2017, at 2pm. 

Bishop Richard said it was a joyful occasion and more seats were needed for the high turnout from colleagues, family, friends and parishioners. 

He said: "Readers play a vital role in many of our parishes as preachers and teachers of the faith.  Each was presented with a Bible alongside their licence as a reminder, in the diocesan Year of the Bible, that the scriptures are at the heart of our Christian proclamation."

Readers are licensed to ministry and assist priests in a range of tasks including leading worship, preaching and pastoral ministry.  The women and men have responded to a vocation in the Diocese of Chichester to serve in this particular kind of ministry.  They have also undertaken a period of rigorous training in their own time.

Jenny Brown: Holy Trinity, Hurstpierpoint
Gaynor Deal: St Augustine's Scaynes Hill
Dominic Desouza-Campbell: St Nicholas of Myra, Brighton
Martin Draper: Benefice of Clymping, Yapton and Ford
Anna Glenton: St Mary's Glynde
Mary Hagell: St George's Donnington
Trevor Harrison: St Thomas Groombridge
Andrew Jackson: St Peter's Firle
Patrick Pearson-Miles: Chanctonbury Churches: Ashington, Washington & Wiston-with-Buncton
Nick Pendry: St John, Meads, Eastbourne
Katrina Walker: North Mundham with Meston and Hunston
