Ordination of Priests at Chichester Cathedral

At 4.00pm on Saturday 21st May 2016 fifteen ordinands were ordained as priests, at Chichester Cathedral, by the Bishop of Lewes, The Right Reverend Richard Jackson.

Over seven hundred people gathered together in the Cathedral to celebrate this special service, which was the culmination of three years of training. They were supported on the day by family, friends and people from the parishes in which they serve.

The ordained ministry of the Church traces its origins to the commissioning of the twelve disciples by Jesus Christ - and since the first century AD, bishops have laid hands on those to be ordained, as a sign of the gift of the Holy Spirit bringing authority into the life of those who are to work in a particular ministry in the Church.
