The Priory of England and the Islands of the Order of St John today announced the appointment of The Very Reverend Nicholas Frayling, as the new Dean of the Board of the Priory. In addition to his duties as Dean, Nicholas will become a Trustee Director of the nation's leading first aid charity, St John Ambulance. Nicholas' new role will be effective as of 1 May 2014.

Responding to his new appointment, Nicholas said: 'I am greatly looking forward to these new challenges. The services delivered by St John - the Priory and St John Ambulance - really do make a difference to people’s lives, and I relish the opportunity to be involved in the governance of these historic and life-saving organisations.'

St John Ambulance’s vision is that “Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.” The charity is made up of over 45,000 volunteers committed to caring and saving lives and every year they treat over 130,000 casualties. As well as being the market leader in first aid training for the workplace, they have been providing first aid cover at major public events since Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee and support many high profile national and local events. Without the volunteers many of these events could not take place.

Upon Nicholas’ appointment the Prior, Rodney Green, added: 'We're delighted to welcome Nicholas to the Priory and St John Ambulance in his roles as Dean and Trustee Director. With his background and skills I know he will bring great insight and expertise to these appointments. We all look forward to working with him from May this year.’
