John Piper: The Fabric of Modernism - 12 March to 12 June 2016.

The Sleepers: Clare Woods and Des Hughes - 6 March to 5 June 2016.

Marking the 50th anniversary of the installation of John Piper's celebrated altar tapestry in Chichester Cathedral, Pallant House Gallery is hosting the first major exhibition to explore Piper's textile designs, including rarely seen tapestries and ecclesiastical garments.  Many studies for this important example of religious art are shown alongside foliate head tapestries woven to Piper's designs at West Dean Tapestry Studio.

Alongside this exhibition, in the historic Queen Anne townhouse, is a contemporary installation by artists Clare Woods and Des Hughes, who share an interest in ancient monuments and tombs.  They have responded directly to the famous 'Arundel Tomb' in Chichester Cathedral, as well as artworks in the gallery's permanent collection of Modern British Art.
