Picture: Robert Quinney

Robert Quinney, the Organist who will be playing much of the music during the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, will - only a few days after the wedding - be giving a free concert at Chichester Cathedral.

This famous Organist will perform at the Cathedral on Tuesday 3rd May at 1.10pm - entry is free and all are welcome.

This prestigious concert is part of the Cathedral's Lunchtime Concert series, where world-class music is available to visitors completely free of charge and in the most inspirational of settings.  The concerts are held in the Cathedral Nave and visitors are given a complimentary coffee as they arrive - visitors are also invited to bring their sandwiches and have a picnic lunch in the Nave.

Robert Quinney has been Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey since 2004.  In addition to his work at the Abbey he has a busy freelance career as soloist and ensemble player.  His recent double disc of organ music from Westminster Cathedral was Instrumental Disc of the Month in BBC Music, earned a 5-star review in the French journal Diapason, and was an Editor's Choice in Gramaphone: 'Alongside his impeccable performance Quinney's greatest achievement is to produce music-making which really communicates itself to the listener.'  As a solo performer his profile has increased steadily since winning the Royal College of Organists Performer of the Year competition in 2002.

The music to be played by Robert during the Cathedral concert is detailed below:

  • Prelude and Fugue in E minor
    Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847)
  • Ut re mi fa sol la, BK 64
    William Byrd (c. 1539 - 1623)
  • Sonata No. 5 in C, BWV 529
    1. Allegro
    2. Largo
    3. Allegro
    J.S. Bach (1685 - 1750)
  • Scherzo from Sonata No. 8
    Felix-Alexandre Guilmant (1837 - 1911)
  • Allegro vivace from Symphonie No. 5
    Charles-Marie Widor (1844 - 1937)

Chichester Cathedral's popular Lunchtime Concerts take place on Tuesdays (during term time) at 1.10pm.  They are free and last approximately 50 minutes.  Visitors are welcome to come and go as they please.  Coffee is available at no charge.  There is a voluntary collection at the end of the concert.
