James D.G. ("Jimmy") Dunn (born 1939) is a leading British New Testament scholar, who has had a substantial influence on current thinking about the Bible. For many years Professor Dunn was the Lightfoot Professor of Divinity in the Department of Theology at the University of Durham, and after his retirement was made Emeritus Lightfoot Professor. Professor Dunn's career has spanned some forty years and through his numerous books, articles and commentaries he has helped a generation of students and scholars to explore and understand the Bible. When asked about the advice he gives to his students he says: 'Ask questions which are important to you, questions which you want answers for. That way study of the text will always be fascinating, with questions opening new perspectives and posing further questions...'
This lecture is in celebration of the 400th Anniversary of the King James Bible: 'To read it is to feel simultaneously at home, a citizen of the world, a traveller through eternity.' Andrew Motion, Poet Laureate 1999 - 2009.
