Chichester Cathedral serves as Mother Church to the Diocese of Chichester, which encompasses West and East Sussex. As Mother Church, the Cathedral is host to many of the Diocese’s major celebrations, including services of confirmation, licensing to lay and diocesan posts, and the ordination of deacons and priests. The Cathedral also works in partnership with many local charities, supporting their work, and can provide support and resources for parishes.
Through the Parish Links scheme, we regularly stay in touch with communities across the county. Every parish in the Diocese has a designated “Link” to the Cathedral, enabling the Cathedral to remain connected and engaged with even the most geographically distant parishes.
The Links are also honorary Friends of the Cathedral, and receive the Cathedral Newsletter giving them all the Cathedral news and information about events. The Cathedral also helps the Links to publicise their parish events and holds an annual special service of Choral Evensong in celebration of the Cathedral/Parish Links Network.
Parish groups are particularly invited to attend Cathedral services and join us for tea on the day that they are prayed for in the Diocesan Cycle of Intercessions (each parish across the Diocese is prayed for once a year), and the Cathedral Choir makes regular outreach visits to parishes to sing Choral Evensong.
