Lunchtime Concert: Reigate Winds

Chichester Cathedral's popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes. You are welcome to come and go as you please. Coffee is available at no extra charge, and some visitors even bring a sandwich! There is a retiring collection.

Reigate Winds was formed in 2010 by freelance musicians who all studied at Guildhall School of Music. They were originally a Wind Quintet, but today they are a flexible ensemble of wind players, performing wind chamber music for all combinations, from flute and bassoon duos to dectets, as well as collaborating with string ensembles and pianists. They aim to explore contemporary music, especially works by British composers such as Oliver Knussen, John McCabe, Thea Musgrave and James MacMillan, alongside the standard wind chamber repertoire. Today we have with us:-

Flute – Gemma Emson-Jukes
Oboe – Anna Durance
Clarinet – Helen Bennett
French Horn – Stephen Nicholls
Bassoon – Daniel Emson-Jukes

Since forming, the group has performed at venues across London and the South East, and were invited to open the International Spring Orchestra Festival at the Manoel Theatre in Malta, 2015. As freelance musicians, they have performed with orchestras such as London Philharmonic Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and RTE Symphony Orchestra. Also, Steven holds the position of Second Horn of the Irish Chamber Orchestra. They have also performed as soloists in the South East of England and Malta, and Gemma is a past winner of the Albert Cooper International Flute Competition.
