An Easter Message from the Dean of Chichester

Hundreds of special services took place across the Diocese of Chichester yesterday to mark the beginning of Holy Week.  Palm Sunday marks the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem starting eight days of special services culminating in a celebration of the resurrection on Easter Day.

In his Easter message The Dean of Chichester, The Very Reverend Stephen Waine, describes the next eight days as "a very special time" as  "the church marks with a degree of solemnity the last week of Jesus' earthly life in Jerusalem."

As Dean for the first time in Holy Week this year he is looking forward to celebrating the vigil of Easter Eve and enjoying the glory of Easter Day as the tone changes from one of great solemnity to one of great rejoicing for Jesus' resurrection from the dead.  He is also looking forward to organising an easter egg hunt for the Cathedral choristers in the Deanery garden!
