'Behind the Scenes' at Chichester Cathedral...

On Saturday 10th September Chichester Cathedral participated in Heritage Open Days, a national event, to celebrate England's fantastic history and culture by offering free access to interesting buildings that are usually closed to the public, or normally charge admission.

Many visitors enjoyed this unique opportunity to see three areas of the Cathedral that are usually private.  The Cathedral Library: a fascinating collection of rare books stored in the Cathedral heights.  The Song School Room: home of the famous Cathedral Choir - a historic room with a secret chamber.  The Bishop's Chapel, in the Bishop's Palace: this is the private chapel of the Bishop of Chichester with its unique 13th Century Chichester Roundel.

Also on 10th September the Cathedral ran a family activity in the morning with costumed characters in the Cathedral who chatted to families and brought to life the building's history and architecture.  They encouraged children to make drawings as part of a cut-out Cathedral to take home.
