The Dean of Chichester with Julie McDonnell and fellow ringers

On the afternoon of Friday 21st October 2016 Julie McDonnell and her fellow bell ringers visited the Cathedral's Bell Tower to ring a Quarter Peel as part of her fundraising effort for Strike Back Against Blood Cancer (SBABC).  She was welcomed to Chichester Cathedral by the Dean of Chichester, the Very Reverend Stephen Waine.

Julie, a bell ringer at Brede, who has Leukaemia has founded SBABC to raise awareness of the 137 blood cancers that exist through the tireless work of Blood Wise.  Their aim is to support and campaign for all blood cancer sufferers and in the long term eradicate all blood cancers.

Julie encouraged cathedrals across the UK and overseas to take part in bell ringing on 25th June.  Churches across the diocese were also called to raise awareness of blood cancer by ringing a peal, quarter, touch or change.  It caught everyone's imagination, with many posts and photos of bell-ring groups being shared on Facebook and Twitter.

Julie and her team rang a quarter peal of 'Julie McDonnell' Doubles which was composed in her honour.  She has rung 117 of 'Julie McDonnell' to date and raised over £1,000,000.   She rang for an incredible donation of £49,000 at Chichester Cathedral.
