Cathedral Searches for Wartime Memories...

Picture: Spire

When a bomb fell near the Cathedral in 1942, some of the stained glass was picked up and incorporated in a window in a church in Canada.  We have some details about this and are now wondering where the rest of the stained glass disappeared to.  Perhaps it was all collected up and disposed of or perhaps some readers may know?

This is just one example of the sort of thing we are hoping to discover about the everyday life of the Cathedral and the part it played in City Life during World War II.

Did you live in or near Chichester during the 2nd World War?
If you did, you may have some memories of Chichester Cathedral during that time, which we would love to hear about.  We are hoping to find out about the everyday life of the Cathedral, how the war affected it and any part it played in the war effort.

If you are interested in helping us and would like to write down your reminiscences, we can send you an outline of some areas we are especially interested in although this is intended only as a starting point.  However, you don't have to write it down at all since we can record your contribution.

Whatever memories you have of the Cathedral or the people who worked there during the war, we should be pleased to hear from you.
