Chichester Cathedral Evensong with Thanksgiving for the 90th Birthday of Her Majesty The Queen

Sunday 12th June 2016 sees the culmination of the national festivities to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen's 90th birthday, in which the nation will celebrate her extraordinary commitment to the country and Commonwealth, to individuals and to charities.

From 2.15pm - 3.15pm the bells will ring out from Chichester Cathedral's Bell Tower to mark the occasion.  A local band of bell ringers, all regular Sunday ringers at the Cathedral, will be ringing a Quarter Peel using the Cambridge Surprise Major method.  The piece lasts approximately fifty minutes and will finish just before the start of a special celebratory Choral Evensong at 3.30pm, sung by the Cathedral's acclaimed choir.

This special Evensong service will include prayer and thanksgiving for The Queen, beginning with Byrd's 'O Lord, make thy servant Elizabeth' and will include one of Handel's four coronation anthems 'Let thy hand be strengthened', composed in 1727 and taking the text from Psalm 89 (verses 13-14).

The Evensong is open to all and everyone is welcome.
