The Dean of Chichester, the Very Revd Stephen Waine, welcomed 160 guests from across Sussex to a fundraising dinner in the Nave of Chichester Cathedral on Wednesday 11th October.  The dinner launched sponsorship for the Cathedral's spectacular Festival of Flowers, planned for 2018.  Guests including the Duchess of Richmond, the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Lady Emma Barnard and Lady Helen Broughton.  The famous British Designer and Business Woman, Emma Bridgewater, also attended the event as she is Patron of the 2018 Festival of Flowers.  This glittering evening is thought to be the first fundraising dinner - actually held in the Cathedral Nave - for many centuries.

Details of the 80 arrangements which will interpret the Festival theme 'This Earthly Paradise', some as large as 20 feet long and 12 feet high were shared with guests.  Festival Designer, Jose Morum-Pound, explained how the exciting designs will celebrate plant hunting, botany, horticulture and conservation, celebrating the plants which gave the continents their unique identity and fed the imagination which continues to inspire today's gardeners and explorers.

Emma is delighted to support Chichester Cathedral as Patron for the 2018 Festival of Flowers, explaining: 'I feel a keen sense of anticipation already

for the moment when you step into Chichester Cathedral to find it mystically transformed with the scent, colour and beauty of 50,000 flowers'.  Emptied of usual furniture, the breath-taking architecture of Chichester's Nave, Chapels, Aisles, Tombs and Transepts will be uniquely revealed adorned with flowers.

Chichester Cathedral's Festival of Flowers is a biennial event organised by Chichester Cathedral Restoration & Development Trust.  The Festival attracts 15,000 visitors and has raised approximately £1million towards the cost of restoration work at Chichester Cathedral over the past twenty years.  Next year will be the 12th Festival of Flowers, funds raised from this event will support the re-covering  and restoration of the Cathedral's High Roofs, a major project which is expected to take four years to complete, and will commence later this year.  Sponsorship for this event will maximise the money raised towards vital restoration.  The Cathedral Trust is delighted to have the support of the Title Sponsor Rathbones Investment Management.

The Festival of Flowers 2018 will be a three day spectacular: Visitors will experience the beauty of Chichester Cathedral adorned with flowers and trees, a programme of live music, a Festival Fair, Plant Fair and Café des Fleurs.  The Festival of Flowers will take place from 31st May - 2nd June 2018 (30th May Champagne Preview).  Tickets go on sale 16th October 2017.
