Launch event for the Chichester Anna Chaplaincy...

Launch of Chichester Anna Chaplaincy
Launch of Chichester Anna Chaplaincy

On Friday 7th July, the Chichester Anna Chaplaincy was launched at an event held in the private gardens of the Bishop's Palace. Anna Chaplaincy is a registered charity dedicated to the befriending and supporting of older people of all faiths and none, and their families and carers. It is affiliated to the Anna Chaplaincy, founded in Alton in 2010 by Debbie Thrower in partnership with the Bible Reading Fellowship, represented by Richard Fisher. It has since spread throughout the United Kingdom and this launch was to formalise the work already being done on a large scale in this area and to introduce the newly appointed local Chaplain, Lou Lou Morris.

The afternoon was a great success. The sun shone on over two hundred guests, the most notable of which were the residents of local care homes, some of whom had not been outside for many months. The venue was a beautifully decorated marquee pitched in the Bishop's private gardens, where tea was served together with a special celebration cake expertly iced with 'The Gift of Years' logo. There were also tours of the Palace available, conducted by Cathedral Guides Judith Lee and Celia Javan. Debbie Thrower and Canon Richard Fisher both made inspiring speeches, while Deborah Hennessy, the Chair of Trustees of Chichester Anna Chaplaincy, gave a rousing call to action for more volunteers and financial support.

David Cooke, a spokesman for the charity said: 'Chichester Anna Chaplaincy has made huge progress since its initial planning meeting last year - indeed the rapidity of this progress has amazed many onlookers - but this has only been possible because of the wonderful help given by many at the Cathedral and in the Diocese, and by enthusiastic volunteers from nearly all of the local churches. Chichester Anna Chaplaincy is, and will remain, a noteworthy ecumenical ministry.'
