'Lights Out' to mark WW1 Centenary - Monday 4th August 2014

Chichester Cathedral
Chichester Cathedral

"The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime"

Sir Edward Grey, Foreign Secretary, uttered these words on the eve of Britain officially entering the First World War in August 1914.  Exactly 100 years later The Royal British Legion 'Lights Out' campaign is an invitation to millions of individuals, households and companies to join together in a national moment of reflection by turning off their lights from 10pm until 11pm on Monday 4th August.

Chichester Cathedral will take part in this act of shared remembrance; the normally floodlit Cathedral will be 'Lights Out' at 10pm.
