On Friday 8 June Their Royal Highnesses Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex visited Chichester Cathedral's Festival of Flowers, as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

They were welcomed to the event by the Dean of Chichester Cathedral, the Very Reverend Nicholas Frayling and met several members of the Flower Festival team throughout their visit.

The theme for the 2012 Festival is 'Every Book Tells a Story' and more than sixty British book titles are on display in the Cathedral interpreted with flowers, trees and plants.  The Festival of Flowers, the ninth for the Cathedral, is one of the most successful events in the city calendar and has been described as 'The Gold Standard in Flower Festivals.'

170 flower arrangers have contributed to this year's Flower Festival creating 61 different arrangements including 65 trees and 50,000 flowers.

During their day in West Sussex the Royal couple also visited Chichester's Pallant House Gallery, The Weald  & Downland Museum at Singleton where they toured the open air museum and met volunteers and representatives of  the uniformed youth voluntary organisations from the County and Canine Partners in Heyshott, a charity that aims to transform the lives of people with disabilities by providing them with highly trained assistance dogs.
