The Bishop of Chichester announces the Cathedral Visitation Team

Bishop Martin has announced those who will undertake with him the Visitation of Chichester Cathedral.  They are Pim Baxter OBE, The Revd Canon Dr Simon Jones and Dr Richard Mantle OBE DL.

Pim Baxter is currently Deputy Director at the National Portrait Gallery in London, where she has been a member of the senior team since 1997.  Prior to this she spent a number of years at the National Theatre, and has also worked in opera.  Her role at the Gallery includes heading up Communications and Development and more recently the HR team.  Pim has a wide range of arts experience including a number of mentoring roles.  She recently Co-chaired the Women Leaders in Museums Network group.  She is currently a Board member of ALVA (the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions) and Central School of Ballet, and since 2012 has been a Governor of Mid-Kent College.  In March 2014 Pim became a Lay Canon at St Paul's Cathedral.  She was awarded an OBE for services to the arts in the recent New Year's Honours.

Simon Jones has been Chaplain and Fellow of Merton College since 2002.  He is an Honorary Canon of Christ Church, Oxford and will be installed as a Wiccamical Prebendary of Chichester Cathedral next month.  He is a member of the Church of England Liturgical Commission, the Academic Board of the Archbishop's Examinations in Theology, and the University of Oxford Faculty of Theology and Religion.  He is also Tutor in Liturgy at St Stephen's House, and a trustee of Hymns Ancient & Modern.  His publications include (with Benjamin Gordon-Taylor) Celebrating the Eucharist (SPCK, 2005); The Sacramental Life: Gregory Dix and His Writings (Canterbury Press, 2007); (with Melanie Ross) The Serious Business of Worship (Continuum, 2010); and At All Times and in All Places (Canterbury Press, 2014).  During a recent sabbatical he completed Celebrating Christian Initiation: baptism, confirmation and rites for the Christian journey, which will be published by SPCK in March 2016.

Richard Mantle is General Director and Board Trustee of Opera North.  His first appointment in the opera field was as Deputy Managing Director at English National Opera until 1985 when he joined Scottish Opera as Managing Director.  He spent 3 years working in opera in Canada before returning to the UK in 1994 to lead Opera North.  Previously he was a personnel and industrial relations professional with leading commercial organisations including the Beecham Group and J. Walter Thompson.  Richard was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music by the University of Leeds in 2009, a Fellow of the Leeds College of Music and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.  He is a member of the General Synod of the Church of England and a Guardian of the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham where he is Treasurer.  He is a member of the Council of the College of the Resurrection at Mirfield and Vice Chair of Parcevall Hall.  He has also served on the Finance Committee of the Archbishops Council.  Richard is a Board member of the National Opera Studio, a member of the Advisory Council of the Music Department at York University and Chairman of the Arts Fundraising and Philanthropy Consortium.  He was awarded the OBE in 2013 for services to music and is a Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire.

The Visitation will take place after Easter.
