The End of Life Debate, Dying with Dignity - Saturday 4 July 2015

Following the successful seminar entitled 'Getting Older - Living Well', the Cathedral is offering a chance to examine, understand and talk about what is perhaps the most difficult subject of all.  While many of us can expect to be fit and reasonably healthy into our eighties and nineties, for some, old age can feel like a burden, both for themselves and for those who care for them.  Advances in medical science and care means that many people today are living with severe and debilitating illnesses and having to manage their lives in ways which are unprecedented.

There will be contributions from three specialists, Julia Fairhall, a Queens Nurse with expertise in palliative care, Revd Peter Wells, Psychotherapist and Hospital Chaplain and Revd Dr Alison Green, Cathedral Curate.  The three sessions will examine the Palliative care of the dying; Pastoral care of the dying, their friends and carers; and religious and ethical teaching.  The following panel discussion will be joined by a former hospice chaplain and a former circuit judge.

The event is free.  Please register your name with Richard Ashby on 01243 372234 or email and leve a message if there is no answer.
