'Redeeming Money: The Quest for an Economy of Generosity'  a Chichester Theological Society Lecture by Canon Dr Jim Walters

Monday 9th October 2017 at 6.30pm in the Cathedral.  Free entry and all are welcome.

Dr Jim Walters
Canon Dr Jim Walters

What are Christians meant to think about money?  We know that loving it is the root of all evil (1 Timothy 6.10).  So we tend to view it as a morally neutral instrument of exchange and value that only becomes a danger when we get greedy.  Yet the financial crisis we have been living through has raised far deeper moral questions about how money shapes our lives and societies.  It suggests that the ways we think of money and use money, both systemic and personal, are in need of redemption

Dr Walters is Chaplain of the London School of Economics and Political Science and a priest in the Church of England.  He is a Senior Lecturer in Practice at the LSE Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and a Senior Fellow of the LSE Institute for Public Affairs.  Since arriving at the LSE in 2010 he has set up the LSE Faith Centre to promote religious literacy and interfaith dialogue.  He studied at Selwyn College, Cambridge and is a regular contributor on the interface of theology, philosophy, and politics.  In 2012 he published his theological engagement with the work of the French philosopher Jean Baudrillard.
