Collapse of the Spire

Saturday 23 March 2013 at 2.30pm in the Cathedral Nave

An inspiring tale of a crumbling landmark and Victorian builders

Presentation of the Heritage Lottery funded Library Digitisation Project

All are welcome

This fascinating presentation will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about the dramatic collapse of the Cathedral Spire in 1861.  Why did it collapse?  How did people react to the collapse?  And how was the festive re-opening of the Cathedral in 1867 celebrated?

Through the use of digitised images, poetry and music, this fascinating period in the life of the Cathedral will be told by the volunteers and the project manager behind the Library Digitisation Project.
