The Morse-Boycott Bursary Fund

The Morse-Boycott Bursary Fund provides financial assistance to the parents of boy choristers at cathedral choir schools throughout the UK giving preference to sons of the clergy. It offers vital support to boys from all backgrounds whose parents would not otherwise be able to afford to give their sons the opportunity to benefit from the superb musical education offered by the cathedral choir schools. In so doing it helps to maintain the numbers of choristers and thereby preserve the 900 year-old tradition of Anglican Church music. The Morse-Boycott Bursary Fund grew out of the Trust that was set up when St Mary of the Angels Choir School closed in 1971. The late Fr. Desmond Morse-Boycott had established this school in 1932 to provide a general education in harmony with the doctrine and discipline of the Church of England, plus a musical training.

Today the Bursary Fund, named after this great Christian educationalist, is administered by the Dean and Chapter of Chichester Cathedral but for the benefit of choristers at all cathedrals. It depends entirely on donations and legacies to build the capital from which bursaries can be provided to the needy.
