In addition to its daily routine of services, the Cathedral is open all day as a place for quiet reflection, meditation and prayer. The Lady Chapel at the far east of the Cathedral is reserved for private prayer, and many visitors pray and light candles at the Shrine of St Richard. There are also several smaller chapels on either side of the Nave. You are welcome to spend as much time in the Cathedral as you need.
A chaplain is present in the Cathedral throughout the day, who leads a short session of prayer on the hour, and may be approached by anyone who is in need of assistance or a listening ear.
The Prayer of St Richard
Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits which thou hast given me;
for all the pains and insults which thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer,
friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly,
