Festival of Flowers 2016
2016 will see the return of Chichester Cathedral's spectacular floral event. Fifty thousand flowers and thousands of visitors are expected to attend the 2016 Festival of Flowers. This biennial event is organised by Chichester Cathedral Restoration and Development Trust and welcomes visitors from all over the world who come to experience what has been called the 'gold standard' of Flower Festivals.
This majestic nine hundred year-old Cathedral will be transformed with over eighty stunning arrangements all following the theme of the Festival's title: 'The Artist's Palette'. A dazzling array of imaginative and beautiful flower designs will interpret the theme to sensational effect. The theme will reflect artists represented in the Cathedral, local Sussex artists and other well-known artists.

Mr Tim Wonnacott, TV Presenter
Mr Tim Wonnacott, Television Presenter (Bargain Hunt, Antiques Roadshow...) and Fine Arts expert, is the 2016 Festival Patron. Local man Tim is delighted to be taking up the role, explaining: 'Having lived and worked in Sussex for many years, Chichester Cathedral is a very special place to me and my family. I am very excited about the theme for the Festival of Flowers and look forward with interest to seeing the designs.'
This exciting Festival takes place both inside and outside the Cathedral, where visitors can wander through the entire Cathedral Grounds enjoying a programme of music as they go. The Festival Market includes a large number of stalls selling a vast range of plants and craft items, not to mention some quirky and unique gifts. Delicious refreshments and places to relax can be found in the Café de Fleur and Cloisters Café
Chichester Cathedral's Festival of Flowers is renowned for innovation with new varieties of plants and flowers developed to celebrate each Festival. The 2016 Festival Flower is 'Heaven Scent', a scented pink, which has been specially developed by David and Emma James from Allwoods Nursery. Pinks are the quintessential British flower: graceful, highly fragrant, hardy, versatile and easy to pick. The 2016 Festival Flower will be available for purchase at the Festival.
Visitors will also be able to view the winning entries in the Festival of Flowers School's Art competition, held to coincide with the Festival's theme. These will be exhibited within the Cathedral grounds during the festival. Sponsored by Moore Stephens, prizes include art workshops from Pallant House and the Cathedral Education Department, art materials vouchers provided by Southeast Flowers as well as attractions tickets.
As part of the exhibits in the Cathedral, the Eastern Cloister will once again feature a sculpture exhibition by world renowned sculptor Philip Jackson.
We are delighted that the Flower Festival is supported by our event sponsors Rathbones. Other support is gratefully acknowledged from Henry Adams, Spofforths, The Garden Show at Stansted Park, Caffyns, Tooveys Antique & Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, Chichester Festival Theatre, Montezuma's Chocolate, Jackson-Stops & Staff.
Festival of Flowers Children's Competition:
For younger visitors (16 and under), there will be the opportunity to take part in the Children's Quiz which will test their knowledge of the Cathedral and the Flower Arrangements. Answers to the quiz will all be found in the Cathedral. Entry forms will be available at the main entrance and there will be book token prizes of £25, £15, and £10 to be won.
