Lent, Holy Week & Easter at Chichester Cathedral | 2024

Join our community as we follow the path of Jesus' journey to death and resurrection, whist finding solace in the tranquil surroundings of this ancient Cathedral.

These services and events offer a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and pray, considering the Lenten theme of Watch and Pray: Wisdom and hope for Lent and Life - a poignant reminder to await God's comforting presence amidst the challenge, and turbulence, of daily life. Details of our special services for Lent, Holy Week and Easter can be found below. Many will be available to watch online here>>

"Lent is a time of year that continues to fascinate and engage many people.  It's a time to slow down, to let go of things that are bad for us, and to refocus our lives on the things of real importance: our relationships, our wellbeing, our hopes and longings.  In a word, it's a time to repent.

But we do so not out of self-interest - not just because we want to lose a bit of weight or practise a little more mindfulness - but in order to prepare ourselves for the great feast of Easter, when we shall once again celebrate Christ's victory over sin and death.  It is in that victory that we are able to find the solid hope that we crave in a world that is so full of uncertainty and fear.

This Lent is likely to be dominated by our concern about the fragile state of the world and the suffering of so many people through the effects of war. Let us be strong in our prayers for peace, and let us be confident that it is precisely in our human weakness - in those aspects of our lives in which we feel most vulnerable - that Christ's strength is to be found.  Let us try and make him the focus of our repentance."
