The Brighton Chamber Ensemble is a flexible group of between 3 and 8 players. Today we are a piano quartet:
Rachel Ellis (violin) Rachel won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music where she studied with Jaroslav Vanecek. She has played with with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Dove String quartet. Rachel teaches at Christ’s Hospital School, and has led the Horsham Symphony Orchestra for 15 years, performing the Elgar and Sibelius concertos with them.
Ros Hanson-Laurent (viola) studied at RNCM at both undergraduate and post graduate level before working in Bermuda for the Menuhin Foundation. She was head of strings at Benenden School for many years and currently teaches at Roedean and Brighton Girls. While principal viola of the Sussex Symphony Orchestra she performed the Walton Concerto with them.
Siriol Hugh-Jones (cello) studied in Moscow with Prof. Igor Gavrysh and later Olga Galochkina. A member of Dartington Festival Orchestra for 10 years, she co-founded both the Montpellier Cello Quartet (which recorded and toured with jazz singer Claire Martin) and the Brighton Chamber Ensemble. She now combines performing with work as a freelance translator from German and Russian.
Stephen Carroll-Turner (piano) studied music at Edinburgh University, and spent several years as a freelance pianist and musical director. He subsequently worked for Bosendorfer Pianos as UK concert technician and now has a busy career as a piano technician and restorer, specialising in action redesign. He is a member of various chamber groups including the Kelleth Piano Trio.
Chichester Cathedral's Lunchtime Concert series is self-supporting, and thrives through the generosity of its audiences. While there is no charge for admission, we suggest a minimum donation of £3 per person, with Gift Aid applied if possible.
