Tea and coffee, and biscuits, will be served at 10.00am followed by an informal talk by Thomas who is PA to The Dean of Chichester and Liturgy and Music Co-ordinator. Thomas is a qualified doctor and his chosen book is When Breath Becomes Air by neuro-surgeon Paul Kalanithi.
The book starts with the neuro-surgeon's childhood, the turning points towards becoming a doctor and the exhausting journey faced by a Resident prior to graduation. The second part of this emotional memoir covers the challenges he faced as a medic with a diagnosis of terminal lung cancer. Paul Kalanithi wrote: "Human knowledge is never contained in one person. It grows from the relationships we create between each other and the world… and still it is never complete.” One reviewer writes: "One must always brace brace oneself when reading a book like this......but, now that I've finished it, the only thing I regret is not reading it sooner."
A reflection on what it is to live a meaningful life, this book will absorb you and is bound to spark a good discussion. All are welcome at Friends events. Book here or the Friends can be contacted on Tuesday and Friday mornings on 01243 812980.
