Nearly 1,000 years after the Norman Conquest, this exhibition at Chichester Cathedral explores a period of profound change and the lasting impact it had on faith, society and daily life within the city, and the broader county of Sussex.

Discover how new rulers, ideas and traditions reshaped communities, and how the Church played a central role in a changing medieval world.

At the heart of the exhibition is the story of the Cathedral's creation. Through the lives of bishops, builders, masons and craftspeople, uncover the challenges and ambitions behind one of England's great medieval cathedrals.

From architectural innovation and intricate ornament to fire, rebuilding and enduring faith, Conquest, County and a Cathedral reveals the people, places and stories that left a lasting legacy.

Admission

The Cathedral is open for visiting Monday - Saturday (9.00am - 5.00pm) and Sunday (12.30pm - 2.30pm).

Entry to Chichester Cathedral is free. We kindly invite visitors to make a donation, with a suggested amount of £7.00 per person, on entry.

Each donation helps support the Cathedral's work and reflects the approximate £7,000 it costs each day to care for and maintain this historic building. As a charity, we receive no regular funding from the government or the Church of England, so every contribution makes a real difference.

Groups of over six are encouraged to book in advance (bookings@chichestercathedral.org.uk).
