Fernhurst Choral Society: Haydn's Creation

Fernhurst Choral Society will perform Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Creation. The concert will be conducted by Tim Ravalde, the Society’s Musical Director and the Cathedral’s Assistant Organist, and FCS will be accompanied by Downland Sinfonia and three exciting young soloists.

The Creation, which depicts the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis, is a tuneful work that is deservedly considered to be one of Haydn’s masterpieces.  Haydn’s bold use of orchestral colour, his adventurous harmony, exceptional rhythmic and melodic inventiveness, and the work’s strong overall unity, bring the subject to life with an almost operatic vividness and power.
