Lunchtime Concert: Mitchell Farquharson

Chichester Cathedral's popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes. You are welcome to come and go as you please. Coffee is available at no extra charge, and some visitors event bring a sandwich! There is a retiring collection.

Mitchell is the Organ Scholar of Chichester Cathedral for this current 2018-2019 academic year, having joined the Cathedral from The Bishop’s Stortford High School. At TBSHS, Mitchell studied for A-Levels in Music, Mathematics and Physics. Before starting in Chichester, he was Organ Scholar at St. Michael’s Church, Bishop’s Stortford, as well as Organist in Widford.

He is currently studying the organ with Daniel Moult, having previously studied with Richard Carr. Before leaving school, he had achieved Grade 8 in Music Theory, Piano and Organ, with a Pass, Merit and Distinction respectively. Mitchell is now studying towards the ARCO (Associate of the Royal College of Organists) and DipABRSM (Piano) diplomas.

After his gap year at the Cathedral, Mitchell will be moving to King’s College, London to read for a degree in Music. Mitchell will also take up the position of Organ Scholar at King’s College, London from September 2019 for three years, where his duties will involve assisting the Choir Director and accompanying the Choir at Evensong and the College Eucharist, as well as playing for some Morning Prayer services.
