Mayflower Ensemble

Chichester Cathedral's popular lunchtime concerts take place on Tuesdays at 1.10pm during term time, in the spectacular setting of the Cathedral Nave. They are free and last approximately 50 minutes. There is a retiring collection.

    The Mayflower Ensemble is Alison Hughes on clarinet; Nicola Heinrich on cello and Samantha Carrasco on piano.

    Samantha Carrasco studied piano at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded BMus Hons RCM, ARCM and MMus (Perf). She completed her PhD in 2013 (based on the music collection of Jane Austen and her family). Samantha performs as recitalist, chamber musician and orchestral pianist with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. She is Head of Keyboard at Peter Symonds College, Winchester and works as an examiner, trainer, moderator and presenter for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

    Nicola Heinrich was born in Bavaria, studied cello at Munich’s Richard Strauss Conservatory with Jan Polasek, continuing her education in the USA at Indiana University School of Music (Perf Dip)She works in the UK and internationally as a soloist, chamber musician and pedagogue. Orchestral performances include Bielefelder Philhamoniker, Southampton’s 'son' Orchestra and Playlist Collective. Nicola teaches cello at Winchester College, Pilgrims’ School and University of Southampton.

    Alison Hughes studied clarinet at Leeds University, Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, and the RNCM. She was a founder member of the Fell Clarinet Quartet, winning awards from Tunnell Trust and Live Music Now. Alison has held principal positions with the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. She is currently on trial with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra for Sub-Principal Clarinet. Alison also works as a teacher and music therapist.

    Chichester Cathedral's Lunchtime Concert series is self-supporting, and thrives through the generosity of its audiences. While there is no charge for admission, we suggest a minimum donation of £3 per person, with Gift Aid applied if possible.
