Weaving Byrd’s anguished Ave Verum with Tallis’ plaintive If ye love me, and inspiring music by Cornysh, Taverner, Tallis and Gibbons, we hear how the chaos of the English Reformation gave rise to the enduring masterpieces of the English Renaissance.
