The Cathedral has welcomed the birds for more than two decades, and this year carries added significance: 2026 marks the 25th anniversary since peregrines were first regularly observed on the Cathedral.
The pair has become a defining feature of the site, with more than 70–80 chicks fledged since the early 2000s. The peregrine project is a collaboration between Chichester Cathedral, the Sussex Ornithological Society (SOS) and local wildlife enthusiasts David and Janet Shaw who have been observing the birds since the very beginning.
How to take part
We will be hosting drop‑in Peregrine Open Days on the Cathedral Green. In 2026 these will run Wednesday to Sunday, 6 June to 5 July (10.00am - 4.00pm), offering visitors the opportunity to watch the birds through telescopes, view live footage onsite, and speak with volunteers who have supported the project for many years.
