Organ Spectacular

An informal evening concert at Chichester Cathedral showcasing the Cathedral’s historic organ through popular, crowd-pleasing music. It’s a relaxed, sociable event with a bar, a compère, and a big-screen video feed so you can watch the organist at work.

Not at all. You’re welcome to sit and listen, but you can also wander, take in the building, and visit the bar during the performance. The atmosphere is intended to be easy-going and welcoming, whether or not you’ve been to an organ concert before.

The Cathedral’s own organists, Charles Harrison and Tim Ravalde, with Canon Vanessa Baron as compère for the evening.

The organ loft is high and out of sight, so a live video feed is projected onto a big screen. It lets you see the hands, feet and stops in action

A programme of popular favourites: orchestral transcriptions, film music and well-known crowd-pleasers, all arranged for the organ.

No. The programme is chosen to be familiar and fun, and the compère will introduce each piece.

The event will open at 7pm, with music from 7.15pm, and will run through until 9pm, with the bar open throughout.

2 hours in total, but you are welcome to arrive and leave whenever you like within the performance time.

There’s no dedicated Cathedral car park, but several city-centre car parks are a short walk away.

No: seating is available throughout the building, but you’re also welcome to move around the Cathedral during the performance if you’d prefer to explore.

Yes, that’s absolutely fine. It’s a relaxed, come-and-go evening, so please don’t worry if you can’t be there for the start or need to slip away before the end.

All public areas of the Cathedral will be open for you to explore during the evening.

Yes. The relaxed format and familiar music are designed to appeal to all ages.

Whatever you’re comfortable in. There is no dress code.

• Toilet facilities are available in the Cathedral (including an accessible toilet with changing facilities).
• Ramps throughout the Cathedral allow step-free access.

• Food and drink is also available for eat-in or takeaway from Cloisters Kitchen & Garden (open daily from 9.00am - 5.00pm).

• The Cathedral is in the heart of Chichester, close to the Market Cross, the centrepoint of the City’s main pedestrianised shopping streets. The Cathedral’s postcode is PO19 1RP.
• By car, approach from the M27 (A27) and turn northwards at one of the bypass roundabouts following signs for the city centre. Visitors arriving by car should aim for one of the many public car parks around the City.
• The Cathedral is less than a 10 minute walk from Chichester’s Train Station, and is opposite a bus stop.

General Access

Level access into the Cathedral is available through the South West Door, which is marked 40 on the Cathedral Plan.

Within the Cathedral and the Cathedral precincts there are ramps for easy level access. The Cathedral has three wheelchairs which may be used, free of charge, on a first-come first-served basis. 

Toilets

Toilet facilities are available in the North Transept opposite the Treasury(including an accessible toilet with changing facilities).

Parking

There are a limited number of Accessible parking spaces situated on the approach to the Cathedral via West Street. These spaces can be used free of charge provided the vehicle is displaying a blue badge.
