Franz Hauk was born in Neuburg on the Danube in 1955.  After graduating from high school, he studied church and academic music as well as piano and organ at the music colleges in Munich and Salzburg.  His teachers include Aldo Schoen, Gerhard Weinberger, Franz Lehrndorfer and Edgar Krapp.  In 1981 he received the masterclass diploma of the Munich Academy of Music.  Several awards followed.

He has been working as an organist since 1982 and as a choirmaster at the Ingolstadt Minster since 1995.  Franz Hauk is also passionate about contemporary music and always encourages compositional commissions.

Franz Hauk works as a judge at music competitions and leads masterclasses at international music festivals.  He has played for many radio and CD recordings and performs throughout Europe and the USA.  His work as a conductor now also occupies much of his artistic work.

Since 2002 he has taught in the field of historical performance practice at the State Academy of Music and Theatre in Munich.  He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit in 2013.

The 2019 Southern Cathedrals Festival takes place in Chichester from 18-21 July 2019, with the combined choirs of Chichester, Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals performing in an exciting programme of events, performances and services held in the Cathedral and other iconic venues around the city centre.
