Sung Eucharist for Ash Wednesday with Imposition of Ashes

All are welcome to join us as we mark the beginning of Lent.

Lent is a season of penitence, study and repentance, as we prepare ourselves to recall Jesus' final days in Holy Week, and his glorious resurrection on Easter Day. Its forty-day length reminds us of the forty days that Jesus spent in the wilderness, being tested by Satan.

We mark the beginning of Lent with this special Eucharist service, in which we receive the mark of the cross in ash, an ancient symbol of penitence.

With music from the Cathedral Choir.

Have mercy upon me, O God, after thy great goodness: according to the multitude of thy mercies do away mine offences.
Wash me throughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin.
