The Choristers of Chichester Cathedral are delighted to present a recording of In paradisum from Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem.

The Choristers have produced this recording from their own homes during the lockdown, assisted by their parents and guardians.

Cathedral Organist and Master of the Choristers, Charles Harrison, said:

“The Cathedral choristers usually work together for about 18 hours each week during term time. The sudden withdrawal of such a central part of their lives has been a strange and sad experience for them. Refusing to admit defeat, a group of Choristers have managed to record a version of In Paradisum from Fauré’s Requiem, each singing from his own home.

The accompaniment was generated using electronic samples of the organ of Salisbury Cathedral, and we are immensely grateful to Christopher Hussey (chorister dad and professional composer) for his time and technical expertise that made this project possible. Requiems are services of remembrance: as we listen to this piece, it seems right to call to mind those who have been lost to the Coronavirus outbreak, and following VE Day commemorations, to remember the huge human sacrifice represented by World War 2.”
