The Chapter of Chichester Cathedral are delighted to announce the appointment of Ruth Bamford as Communar.
Ruth has over 25 years of experience in business and finance, joining the Cathedral community in 2021 as Head of Finance, becoming the Chief Financial Officer in early 2023 and playing a leading role in the Cathedral’s recovery from the pandemic.
Ruth will continue as the Cathedral’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO), taking on the additional responsibilities of the Communar from the 15th September 2023 and we will formally be welcomed at a service of Choral Evensong in the autumn.
Ruth said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with members of the Cathedral’s community, and those who feel so passionately about this sacred place of worship, in my role as CFO. As Communar, l look forward to playing a greater part in shaping the future life of the Cathedral, to contribute to its growth, and sustainability, at a critical time in its history and continuing to work collaboratively, alongside our congregations, volunteer, staff team and supporters.”
Interim Dean of Chichester, The Reverend Canon Simon Holland, said: “We are thrilled that Ruth has accepted the post of Communar, and are very confident that the communities that we serve will be in very safe and secure hands as we seek to deliver our exciting new vision, and look ahead to celebrate the Cathedral’s 950th anniversary in 2025. We invite you to join us in praying for Ruth as she embraces her new responsibilities.”
As well as the service of Choral Evensong, on Tuesday 26th September (6.30pm) Ruth, alongside colleagues, will be delivering a presentation on finance, fundraising and income generation at the Cathedral. All are welcome to attend to meet Ruth, the team and to find out more about the life of the Cathedral.
