Festival of Flowers 2018 Schools Art Competition Winners

On Friday 18th May, the Cathedral welcomed two very special guests to be presented with their prizes for the Festival of Flowers Schools Art Competition. Ava Munt from Arundel Church of England Primary School and Sebastian Chatzapoulos from Funtington Primary School beat off strong competition from 237 entries received from schools from across East and West Sussex to come top prize winners. 

The judging panel, Louise Hastings, Moore Stephens; Vicky Rowlands, Chichester Cathedral Learning & Engagement and Gaynor Dickeson, award winning local artist were unanimous in their choice: a sunflower in oil pastel by Ava and a William Morris inspired design by Sebastian.

Schools from across Sussex were invited to produce a piece of artwork inspired by the title of the forthcoming Festival of Flowers at Chichester Cathedral 'This Earthly Paradise'. Top prize winners Ava Munt and Sebastian Chatzapoulos received their prizes: vouchers for each of the children to spend on themselves and art workshops at Pallant House Gallery and Chichester Cathedral for their class from Louise Hastings.

Runner up prizes of art materials vouchers were awarded to India Mytles, Conifers School; Miya, Thomas A Beckett School; Martha Sugden, St John's Primary and Tom Ditchfield, Pennthorpe School and The March School. Highly commended for their group entry was Fishbourne C of E Primary School art club.

The winning entries will be on display in the Café des Fleurs, located on the south west lawn, at Chichester Cathedral during the Festival of Flowers, 31st May - 2nd June 2018. Entry to the art exhibition is free. Thereafter the entries will be on display in the Cathedral until 15th June 2018.
