As we come together for this year’s Harvest, our thoughts turn to the earth — its abundance, its fragility, and our shared responsibility to protect and nurture it.

At Chichester Cathedral, we are committed to caring for God’s creation. We continue to improve our beautiful green spaces and support a range of local and national initiatives that help raise awareness and reduce the impact of climate change. Some of our partners include Transition Chichester, Christian Aid, and the Fairtrade Foundation, with whom we work to promote sustainability and justice.

Harvest Sunday - 5 October 2025

This Sunday we celebrate the gifts of creation and reflect on our responsibility to care for the environment and each other, especially in times of need. We are supporting UKHarvest, who rescue surplus food and distribute it to local charities and communities. Food donations are welcome year-round, and we have collection points within the Cathedral. You are welcome to join any or all of these services.

Swap shop

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our recent Clothing Swap Shop event. It was wonderful to see conversations sparked over Fairtrade coffee and homemade cake — and even a few surprise swaps between friends!

The fashion industry contributes significantly to global carbon emissions and faces ongoing ethical challenges. By recycling clothing and moving away from fast fashion, we can reduce our environmental impact and support fairer practices.

Here are a few simple ways to make a difference:

  • No longer your style? Someone else might love it.
  • Wrong size? Donate it to a local charity shop.
  • A little worn or stained? Try mending it — with a little care, you might enjoy it for years to come.
