On Friday 23rd May, the iconic Goodwood Racecourse set the stage for a truly special race to mark Chichester Cathedral's 950th anniversary celebrations.
The ‘Race For Chichester Cathedral 950 Years Handicap Stakes’ was not only a wonderful chance to celebrate our anniversary, but it was also an opportunity to further encourage support for our fundraising efforts.
The sun shone for this special day and Goodwood provided the perfect backdrop for The Very Reverend Dr Edward Dowler and a group of Cathedral staff to enjoy a memorable afternoon at the racecourse.
Supporting the future of choral music
During the day volunteers and staff collected donations and talked to racegoers about our recently launched £950,000 match funding campaign - supporting the Cathedral's rich musical life, helping ensure that choral music continues to echo within the sacred walls for generations to come. Thanks to their dedication, we raised £1,200 through bucket collections on the day - an amount that will be doubled through the match funding initiative. Our sincere thanks go to everyone who donated and to the team who gave their time so generously.
