A group of dedicated runners are raising funds for Chichester's historic Cathedral at this year's Chichester Half Marathon 2026, run by UK Running Events.
The popular event is expected to attract more than 1,500 runners and will take in some of Chichester's most iconic landmarks, including the Cathedral itself, which is also one of the event's official charity beneficiaries.
Team Cathedral includes a group of amateur runners who have been training specifically for this event, generously volunteering their time to raise funds and awareness. Every donation made through Team Cathedral supports the Cathedral’s care of its historic building, music, education, and community work, helping to ensure it remains a place of welcome and wonder for future generations.
Presently, it costs approximately £7,000.00 per day to maintain Chichester Cathedral. As an independent registered charity (No. 1205740), the Cathedral relies on the generosity of supporters, visitors and residents, and receives no regular funding from government or central church sources.
David Phizackerley is part of the team running for Chichester Cathedral. David said: “Running is a real passion of mine, and over the last few years I have completed several half marathons including five of the six (relatively flat) international SuperHalfs. I am looking forward to tackling the challenge of the Chichester Half Marathon with its climb to The Trundle. It’s great that this year Chichester Cathedral is an official charity partner of the Chichester Half Marathon. I often attend a Holy Communion service, so I’m particularly pleased to be running as part of Cathedral team to help raise funds for the Cathedral and the important work that it does within the community.”
Support Team Cathedral
Team Cathedral runners will take on the 13.1-mile route on Sunday 4 October 2026, carrying the encouragement and support of everyone who gives. Every gift, however large or small, will help Chichester Cathedral remain open today, and for future generations.
