On Friday 21st September visitors to the Cathedral Green were able to view a 'pop-up' sculpture installation by artist Hamish Pringle. The sculpture, called 'Sandpaper Bed', forms part of a national art campaign to end 'Bed Blocking' in our NHS hospitals.

The campaign, launched in Edinburgh on 31st August, sees artists from across the UK teaming up to highlight the perils of delayed patient transfer. In total there are 17 bed-themed art installations in iconic locations across the UK during September and early October.

Peter Dowds, the CEO of Elder, the organisation leading the campaign, said: 'It's the very first movement of its kind, bringing together artists, doctors and innovators. We're calling for an end to this misleading label and further reform to a system that continues to keep thousands in hospital unnecessarily.'
